Greggs set to open new store in Alcester
Greggs, the food-on-the-go specialist famed for its sausage rolls looks set to open its new premises in Alcester.
But the UK’s largest bakery chain operator has yet to reveal an opening date on the store on Kinwarton Farm Road, part of the Arden Forest industrial estate.
A spokesperson said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Alcester later this year. We will be able to share further details with you closer to the opening.”
The Herald understands that it is currently recruiting staff and will open in October.
The British-owned company, which set out ambitious plans in 2021 to double sales over the next five years has nearly 2,000 locations across the UK and employs around 22,000 people.
Apart from selling £2million sausage rolls a week it also offers sandwiches, drinks, salads and sweet treats such as doughnuts and muffins.
The business was started in 1939 by John Gregg who delivered fresh eggs and yeast by pushbike to the families of Newcastle and then decided to open his first shop making and selling fresh bread in 1951.
