Good Queen Bess celebrated in Warwick this weekend




QUEEN Elizabeth I will be celebrated this Bank Holiday weekend during the Good Queen Bess Fest which is being staged at various points including St Mary’s Church, Warwick, the Lord Leycester Hospital, Kenilworth Castle and Charlecote Park, with free shuttle bus service between the venues, following the route taken by Queen Elizabeth I.

Good Queen Bess and her entourage will process from The Globe, Theatre St, Warwick to St Mary's Church at 11 am on Saturday 28th and Monday 30th May and Sunday 29th May at 1 pm.

People are welcome to join the procession then enjoy tea, coffee and home-made cakes at St Mary's pop-up café which is open until 4 pm all weekend.

The church is hosting a Shakespeare 400 exhibition with copies of two of the most important and influential books ever published - a first edition King James Bible (1611) and a Shakespeare First Folio (1623).

There’s an Albion printing press in action at St Mary’s, and visitors can dress up in Elizabethan clothes and even record a video message to William Shakespeare.

Exhibition opening times: 10am-6pm Mon-Sat (last admission 5.30 pm), 1pm-4pm Sun (last admission 3.30 pm)

Printing press demonstrations: Sat 28th May and 4th June 2pm, Sun 29th May and 5th June 3pm, Mon 30th May - Fri 3rd June 2.30pm.

Admission prices: £3.50 adult, £2.50 concession, under 16s free.
