KINDHEARTED friends and businesses in Stratford-upon-Avon, have been rallying around to raise £25,000 for a baby with Sickle Cell Anaemia, who desperately needs a bone marrow transplant, ideally within the next three weeks.

Silver Beckham Bazira was born in Warwick Hospital, on 17th May, and lives in Meadow Close, with his parents Mebal and Peter Akalya, and two-year-old sister Serena England Kisa. Silver’s eldest sister, seven-year-old Genevieve, lives in Africa, where she goes to school.

Mebal and Peter both work at Scholars Mews care home, in Scholars Lane, as night-time care assistants.

Scholars Mews is holding a family fundraising superhero event today (Sunday 31st July) from 2pm until 4.30pm, at the home.

There will be a barbecue and a mix of light entertainment, including a raffle backed by businesses including The PictureHouse, The Townhouse, Boston Tea Party, Wink Photography, L'Occitane, The Body Shop, Riverside Tea Garden, Avon Boating, The Butterfly Farm, The Falstaff Experience, The Mad Museum and The Creaky Cauldron.

So far, around £1,000 has been raised towards Silver’s operation. To make a donation visit https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/mebal-nand
