More misery for motorists as heavy overnight rain sees river levels rise across south Warwickshire




HEAVY overnight rain has once again seen river levels rise around the district with several flood warnings now in force. Two flood alerts have been issued for the River Avon between Rugby and Bidford-on-Avon with the other being in place for the River Stour in south Warwickshire.

The River Avon has burst its banks in Stratford-upon-Avon with flood water covering the Recreation Ground. In Alcester the River Arrow is very high and has covered farm land on the edge of the town near the Stratford Road. Several vehicles have been abandoned having driven through deep water at the roundabout on the Fosse Way at Halford and Salters Lane near Bearley.

Severe flood warnings have also been issued for the River Avon at Welford, Aston Cantlow and Walton with the the Government flood warning website expecting levels to continue rising for the next 12 hours.
