Flo is BBC's top chorister
FLORENCE Cain from Ardens Grafton has been crowned the BBC Radio 2 Young Female Chorister of the Year 2016.
Florence, aged 16, who attends Alcester Grammar School, was announced as the winner following the grand final of the prestigious competition broadcast from Manchester Cathedral and hosted by BBC Radio 2’s The Sunday Hour presenter, Diane Louise Jordan.
Now in its 30th year, Radio 2 Young Choristers of the Year celebrates young talent singing for worship in churches, chapels, cathedrals and beyond. Florence, pictured right, sang Dear Lord and Father of Mankind and How Beautiful Are the Feet of Them by Handel during the final.
As well as winning the Young Female Chorister of the Year trophy, she will receive funding towards singing tuition and have BBC appearances through the year at charity events and on Songs of Praise. She sings in St Mary’s Church, Warwick, choir twice a week plus occasional weekends through the year and all religious festival events.
As well as being very involved with the music department at Alcester Grammar, Florence has just started Saturday School at the Junior Royal Academy of Music. Her sisters — Grave and Eve and her mum and dad, Deborah and Andrew, are all very proud of Florence or Flo as they call her.
“We as a family were never into hot housing we just wanted Flo to have a balanced background and when she’s not performing she likes to lip-sync to pop songs just like anyone else her age. Outside all this Florence is a grounded, normal teenager,” said her father Andrew.
