Five-year housing land supply statement published

STRATFORD-on-Avon District Council has published its latest figures showing that it can continue to demonstrate a five-year housing land supply.

This is a vital tool under government planning rules to protect the district from uncontrolled development led by house builders. The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires all local planning authorities to have an up-to-date, deliverable five-year land supply.

The District Council’s Housing Land Supply Statement for 2018-2023, published this week shows that it has a 6.26-year supply.

The latest housing completion survey shows that a record 1,295 homes were built in 2017/18, 183 more than the previous year’s figure of 1,112.

Cllr Daren Pemberton, planning and building services portfolio: “After three consecutive years of over-delivery to meet the growing needs of our residents the district council can now demonstrate the equivalent of 6.26 years’ worth of housing land supply.

“It’s definitely good news for the whole of Stratford-on-Avon district as it strengthens our hand in resisting speculative development on sites which are not the most suitable or preferred, whilst continuing to deliver on housing growth.”
