Fire service reminder to stay safe this Christmas
WHILE fire and road safety remains important throughout the year, nothing is more disturbing for the fire and rescue service than seeing people’s lives ruined by house fires or families destroyed by the impact of road traffic collisions caused by drink driving.
In a bid to reduce the calls received this Christmas, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service are launching a campaign to make people think about the dangers they may face, and the simple things they can do to keep them safe over the Christmas and New Year period. As part of the campaign, the Service will be sharing their 12 Calls of Christmas on their social media channels to highlight the main calls fire control receive over the festive period. In addition to the 12 calls, crews will be releasing two short films focusing on electrical fire safety and the dangers of drink driving with a slideshow finale round up of the year on Christmas Eve.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Services Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Rob Moyney said: “This year we have a great campaign which has been driven by the passion of our crews. They wanted to show residents what it’s like to attend incidents from their perspective and the videos they have created really make you think about how many people are impacted by the actions of just one person who has chosen to drink and drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
“So please follow our Christmas fire safety campaign and make sure that everyone enjoys a safe and happy Christmas!”
Warwickshire County Councillor John Horner, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety said: “Fire safety is important throughout the year, but the extra distractions of Christmas make it especially important to be vigilant.
“This is a time of celebration with family and friends and by being aware of the fire risks around your home, and by making a few simple checks, you can ensure that you and your loved ones can celebrate safely.”
Cllr Matt Western, Chair of the Resources and Fire and Rescue Overview and Scrutiny Committee, added:“We want everyone to remember Christmas for the right reasons, so we urge people to think carefully about their safety over the festive period and follow the safety tips provided by our crews to ensure that you reduce the risk of having a fire in your home. Once you have checked your home, why not take a little time to check that friends, relatives and neighbours are safe too! And share the Christmas spirit of fire safety!”.
