Festive goodwill helps local charities and churches
Alcester’s St Nicholas Night was the busiest anyone can remember. The annual street parade and proclamation of the Boy Bishop is always held on 6th December.
Proceedings were opened by this year’s guest of honour double Olympic gold champion Nick Skelton OBE who lives near to Alcester, who described it as a “beautiful town.”
Those visiting Alcester on Tuesday were treated to live music, dancing Morris Men, a classic car cavalcade, and scores of stalls selling anything from hot dogs to hot mulled wine. This year’s Boy Bishop – who is chosen to help Rev Adrian Guthrie look after church affairs – is Jack Harrison. On Tuesday evening Jack arrived at the gates of St Nicholas Church in a special gold chariot accompanied by three angels. His job was to switch on the Christmas tree lights in the church yard before joining the gathered crowd in prayer inside the church.
A full round-up of the Christmas festivities from around the district plus lots of pictures appears in this week's Herald.
