Fancy becoming a local councillor?

STRATFORD-on-Avon District Council is asking local residents to consider standing for election as a district or parish councillor next year.

Interest in the elections – to be held for the District Council and all 83 parish councils on 2nd May, 2019 – will be encouraged by a flyer being delivered to every household from this weekend, and a Prospective Councillor event at the Council House in the autumn.

David Dalby, the District Council's Democratic Services Manager, said: "Councillors come from all walks of life, which is very important because having a diverse range of local people to reflect different points of view can help all district residents."

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has 36 councillors, each representing a particular ward in the district, while the majority of parishes have a parish or town council ranging from five to 18 councillors depending on size of population.

The Prospective Councillor event will be held at the District Council Offices in Stratford-upon-Avon at 5pm on 15th November 2018.

David added: "So, why not find out what it takes to be a councillor and how you can make a difference – it might be the best decision you ever make!"

More information on the event or standing to be a councillor, is available from Election Services on 01789 260210.
