Stratford hosts national rally for MK1 Ford Cortina Owners Club

IT involved a 500-mile trip but every mile was worth it as Neil Maclean from Conon Bridge near Inverness trailered his 1966 Lotus Cortina Mk1 to Stratford Racecourse for the official MK1 Owners Club National Rally last weekend.

The beautiful replica - in the Alan Mann Racing colours of red and gold - was made famous by internationally known British racing stars such as Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and Sir John Whitmore.

“I bought the car in 2018 but because of Covid I had to delay any refurbishment work on it for 15 months. I visit the national rally every year and have made a lot of friends in Stratford. I still get people stopping and staring at my vehicle and even taking photographs when I drive by,” Neil said.

He reckons if his Lotus Cortina Mk1 was put up for sale it could fetch £45,000.

There are no long hauls for Neil this weekend, he’s off to another car rally but it’s only four miles down the road this time.
