Ceremonies are taking place across Stratford District tomorrow in memory of those who gave their lives in the Great War, 100 years ago.

In Stratford, a beacon will be lit in Stratford at 7pm to formally mark the conclusion of the First World War.

The Stratford Beacon will be lit by Tim Cox, Lord Lieutenant, and following playing of the Last Post, the 247 names recorded on the First World War memorial will be read out.

It is anticipated that those attending the commemoration will start to arrive at the Garden of Remembrance from 6.30pm, therefore road closures in the streets surrounding the Garden will be in force between 6pm and 8pm.

A new First World War exhibition also opens at Stratford Armouries Museum tomorrow.

Mud, Monotony and Missing Home opens to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day and centres on a collection of letters between a local soldier, Sergeant Arthur Bradley, who was born in Shipston and his wife, Lilian.

The letters discuss contemporary events at home as well as describing Arthur’s experience of the war in France.
