District gears up for royal visitor
PRINCESS Anne will be carrying out two official duties during her visit to the area tomorrow, Tuesday.
HRH The Princess Royal will open Keyte Gardens in Wootton Wawen, a new development of affordable homes – and Warwickshire’s first Passivhaus.
Warwickshire Rural Housing Association (WRHA) will be welcoming HRH The Princess Royal for the official opening of its ground-breaking new development in the village. Working in partnership with Bouygues UK and Waterloo Housing, she will visit at 10am to meet the partners involved in this community-led development as well as members of the local community and some of the new residents who have recently moved in to their ultra-low energy homes.
A total of 14 affordable homes have been built on the site to the rigorous Passivhaus standard to enable residents to reduce their carbon footprint as well as keeping their energy bills low.
The innovative development has just been shortlisted in the Best Green Scheme category of the 24housing Awards 2018 which celebrate excellence across the housing sector.
As previously reported, The Princess will also open Stratford’s state-of-the-art £22million cancer and eye hospital at 1pm on the same day.
The new hospital building has been operating for more than a year now, but this will mark its official opening.
A mammoth fundraising appeal to pay for added extras at the hospital gained huge support in the area as organisers encouraged people to buy into the idea that this was their hospital. The appeal raised a staggering £1million for the facility, paying for things like specialist equipment and chemotherapy pods in the Rigby Cancer Unit.
77777The hope is that Stratford Hospital will develop into a world class centre of excellence for cancer care and the treatment of eye conditions.
The final piece of the jigsaw was put in place earlier this year when a £2million MRI scanner was installed on the ground floor.
