Plans to redevelop Bards Walk have been altered to include ten new apartments on the upper floor of the building.

Work is already underway to modernise Bards Walk, removing the covered walkway in favour of creating larger units with prominent frontages on Wood Street and Henley Street.

In the original application both the upper floor and lower floor would have been filled with retailers or leisure operators, though the upper floor will now be filled with apartments.

A spokesperson speaking on behalf of the developer ELQ UK Properties said the decision had been made to take advantage of the lack of apartments currently available in the town centre.

He added that more retail and leisure tenants were expected to be announced at Bards Walk in the New Year.
