Cycle challenge raises cash for Myton Hospices
CYCLING 100 miles, 100 km or even 50 km might seem like a daunting and perhaps unachievable task to some but on Sunday 31 July, a record numbers of cyclists took part in The Myton Hospice’s annual Cycle Challenge to do just that.
Setting off from Warwick Myton Hospice, 427 cyclists completed their chosen route around Warwickshire and the North Cotswolds to raise money for the local charity. For the first time, organisers offered cyclists the opportunity to take on a gruelling Century Ride which involved tackling demanding terrain and climbing more than 6,000 feet.
This year’s event also featured the renowned ‘Hill Climb Challenge’ where the quickest male, female and team to reach the top of Saintbury Hill were crowned King and Queen of the Mytons 2016. Ashley Miles was crowned this year’s King of the Mytons, Lucy Calcott was named this year’s Queen and Team Wooly were recognised as this year’s winning team. Winners were presented with a trophy and the King and Queen also received a unique polka dot jersey.
Beccy Richards, Challenge Events Coordinator at The Myton Hospices, said, "We are thrilled to bits with this year’s Cycle Challenge. 427 participants took park which is the most we have ever had for this particular event! It is following the success of events such as the Cycle Challenge that we feel very privileged to have such amazing support from the local community. Myton are delighted to announce that the Cycle Challenge has raised £27,351.94 so far, with donations still coming in.”
