A report last year revealed that of all the drivers commuting in to Warwick, 52 per cent, live within five km and 25 per cent (one in four drivers) live within just two km of their destination in Warwick.
Cllr Peter Butlin, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, said: “We hope people will take the challenge and make their everyday journeys, such as their commute to work, better for themselves and for the environment.”
The County Council is inviting people:
- To pledge to be friendlier to the environment and cut the carbon footprint by using more public transport. For advice on going green in 2016, check public transport options in Warwickshire by visiting www.warwickshire.gov.uk/publictransport.
- To pledge to lose a few pounds and improve health and well-beingby getting on a bike. For help and information on all things cycling-related in Warwickshire, including cycle routes and cycle training, visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/cycling.
- To pledge to share a car for a journey and take at least one car off the road. Warwickshire has a car-share scheme, operated by Liftshare, which is free to join and to find other people in the area interested in car-sharing. Visit http://carsharewarwickshire.liftshare.com.
