Cotswold Olimpicks returns after year off

THE Cotswold Olimpick Games and Scuttlebrook Wake take place in Chipping Campden this weekend.

The Games return to Dover’s Hill tonigth, Friday, 1st June, after a year off.

Gates open at 5pm with Olympic gold medallist and World Champion rower, Matt Gotrel, leading the opening ceremony at 7.15pm, followed by The Championship of the Hill, shinkicking and Tug of War contests.

There will be various other entertainment, including medieval minstrels to a Samba carnival band, the lone piper and a traditional helter skelter, as well as Harry Taylor’s Morris and performances by Rozi T and her crew, and street food stalls.

On Saturday, the Scuttlebrook Wake procession will take place from 12.30pm, led by the Bretforton Silver Band and The Campden Morris Dancers.

The new Queen will be crowned at 3pm and children from St James’ School will perform maypole dances, with the fair carrying on until midnight.

Children’s races will take place from 6pm on Friday night in Chipping Campden High Street.
