CONSTRUCTION work has begun on Stratford-upon-Avon's much-debated big wheel - just five days after it was given the go-ahead to come back to town.

The district council's west area planning committee has approved the application by Birmingham-based Danter Attractions by seven votes to one.

Plans for a 64-bed care home and three assisted living apartment blocks on former Warwickshire College site in Henley-in-Arden were also approved on Wednesday night.

The application also includes the conversion of Arden House to assisted living accommodation with 20th century extensions to the property set to be demolished.
