Wellesbourne is full of festive cheer this year

THANKS to the Christmas creativity of school children in Wellesbourne the annual lights switch on was once again a dazzling display.

Youngsters are invited to enter the Wellesbourne Christmas lights competition and

design a festive decoration with the winning entry turned into an actual Christmas light which then becomes part of the colourful lights featured outside the village hall and surrounding area.

Having won this year’s competition with her Christmas gonk design, Darcie Naven-Jones, aged seven, was invited to switch on Wellesbourne Christmas lights on Saturday where her design was revealed. She was joined on this merry occasion by Father Christmas and his helpers.

“Once the summer fair ends, we start planning the Christmas Fair,” said Santa helper, Katy Field, who is part of the committee that organises both events. “We’re volunteers and I’m so impressed by the ladies who get involved to make this happen because we have to run this event on a shoestring. We had a Santa’s grotto, a fun fair, a snow machine, there was something for everyone including mince pies and mulled wine in the village hall, food and craft stalls and perfect weather.”

The event was supported by Wellesbourne Lions Club and musical entertainment - to get everyone in the spirit of things - was performed by Shipston Town Band.
