Cheerleaders strike gold in US Championships




OLIVIER Triassi from Wellesbourne has won a major cheerleading event in America.

The competition which Olivier competed in was both the ICU World Championships and the USASF Cheerleading World Championships, at ESPN World Wide Sport in Florida. She competed with Team England All girl Elite at the ICU world championships and Coventry Dynamite Lady Grenades at the USASF World Championships.

Team England All-Girl Elite placed Gold becoming the first ever UK team to become World Champions. Coventry Dynamite Lady Grenades placed 8th out of 44 team around the World, maintaining this place for two years running.

Typically, a routine will last 2 minutes 30 seconds and contain a variety of jumps, stunting, tumbling and dance. The music for the performances is custom made with a variety of music and sound effects to match stunting skills.

Olivia, aged 16, Olivia started cheerleading in Year 8 at school, she is now in Year 12. She has done cheerleading for five years and began with a team called RLS based in Leamington, she then moved two years later to Coventry Dynamite to be part of Lady Grenades.

''Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be competing at the World championship yet alone representing my country with some of the most talented athletes and bringing home the gold,'' Olivia said.

Her proud mum Natasha said: “We were so pleased to be able to go and support her this year, it was an absolutely amazing experience and very emotional at the same time. We could not be prouder of her, all her hard work and dedication to the teams has paid off.
