Cast your vote to help shape your Monopoly board
STRATFORD people have a unique chance to nominate those historic landmarks, building and streets they want to see included on the world famous Monopoly board.
There are 22 places up for grabs which epitomise Stratford as Graham Barnes of Winning Moves UK explains: “The Mayfair space on the existing board could become Holy Trinity Church or Shakespeare’s Birthplace or even Anne Hathaway’s Cottage! Piccadilly and Leicester Square could be Stratford’s Royal Shakespeare Theatres, Oxford Street might be Stratford’s shopping areas and Angel of Islington could be the trendy areas of the town – it’s all down to the public.”
Transport will also be incorporated into the Stratford board with rail and airport links considered and even the River Avon and its hugely popular River Festival could feature.
Suggestions for new playing pieces are also welcomed whether it be a miniature statue of Shakespeare or a quill.
The public will also be asked to suggest themed Chance and Community Chest playing cards. One could send players to Coventry – literally! Another could reward players with tickets to the theatre.
“Absolutely everything is up for grabs,” said Natasha Rebuck games executive at Winning Moves UK. “From the squares to the cards. It’s a blank canvas at the moment, by October Stratford will be immortalised forever. Stratford is blessed with world renowned landmarks that’s why we got votes from Canada, Australia the United States and New Zealand.”
