Calls for Welford speed limit reduction
Welford residents are calling for a new 40mph speed limit to be imposed on the Long Marston approach to the village.
A petition calling for the limit to be put in place up to Welford Golf Course has been signed by more than 140 people, though police are believed to be opposed to the idea.
The current limit jumps from 60mph approaching Welford to 30mph when you enter the village, though at the entrance to the golf course, at which players must cross the road to access the other half of the course is within the 60mph zone.
Sam Rainbow, a partner at the golf course, said: “It would just make sense to change the limit, the road is very busy and it would improve safety if the speed limit was reduced. We just want to bring the entrance within a 40mph speed limit, people come very fast down the hill and our players have to cross the road.”
However a spokesperson from Warwickshire County Council said: "We are looking to implement a 50mph speed limit on this road and making that recommendation to the portfolio holder in February.
"A 40mph limit would contravene Warwickshire County Council's policy; the environment would be inappropriate, the mean speeds are too high and any further reduction down to 40mph would not be supported by the Police."
