BEACONS were lit across Stratford district on Thursday, 21st April, to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The Mayor of Stratford, Cllr Tessa Bates, and Stratford District Council chairman, Cllr Mike Gittus, were at Monument Field, on the Welcombe Hills where the Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, Timothy Cox — the Queen’s representative in the county — lit Stratford’s official beacon.

Shipston, Barford, Wellesbourne, Burton Dassett Hills and Quinton all saw beacons lit to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday.

A large crowd enjoyed fireworks at the Stratford-upon-Avon beacon which also welcomed visitors from towns across the world which are also called Stratford. The visitors are here for the Shakespeare celebrations on Saturday 23rd April.
