Hundreds visit Stratford-upon-Avon’s historic town hall as part of heritage open day

HUNDREDS of people took advantage of an opportunity to peep behind closed doors this weekend, during Stratford Town Hall heritage open day.

Several rooms in the town hall not normally open to the public were thrown open to visitors from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 16th September.

These included the council chamber, the mayor's parlour and the ballroom.

David Irving and his wife Olga, centre, were among the visitors welcomed to Stratford Town Hall last Saturday where town councillors including Mayor Cllr Kate Rolfe, right, Cllr Lindsay MacDonald, Cllr Jenny Fradgley and Cllr Gill Cleeve were present to show people around the building in Sheep Street as part Heritage Open Day. Past and present mayors plus several town councillors were also on hand to answer questions and provide information about the town hall and the work of the council.

The Stratford event was part of a national open day scheme held up and down the country.

Stratford Town Council civic officer Charles Wilson said: “It was very successful, we had a lot of very positive comments.

“We always try and do something different to reinvigorate people’s interest and I think everybody enjoyed it.”
