THE Stratford-upon-Avon Herald is inviting people to ‘spend a penny’ and help support the Stratford Cancer and Eye Hospital Appeal with an unusual fundraising initiative.
Earlier this month the Herald revealed its new partnership with Stratford bathroom fitting company Thomas Crapper following the creation of the new Herald lavatory — the first toilet pan created in honour of a newspaper!
Thomas Crapper have pledged to donate £10 to the hospital appeal from every Herald toilet sold.
Meanwhile, visitors to the paper’s Rother Street offices are being asked to Spend A Penny by throwing some coins into the toilet pan on the reception desk!
And we’re also going one step further, by extending a rather special invitation to local residents, businesses and organisations to come in for a photograph on the Herald toilet — and make a donation to the hospital appeal in exchange for pride of place in our wall of fame when we plan to publish the photos, each one accompanied by a few words promoting their business or a memoriam to a loved one lost to cancer.
Whether you want to advertise your business or send a special message in the paper, why not enter into the fun spirit of this far-from-‘bog-standard’ fundraising promotion and officially become part of our ‘chain gang.’
Ali Gray, fundraising manager at the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community and it is initiatives like this one that show the huge variety of ways that people can make money and how local businesses are doing their bit for their local hospital. We’ve reached £791,000 and we’re aiming to reach the £1million mark in December.
“This is the most unusual initiative that we have seen and it proves that there are lots of weird and wacky ways to make money.
“It’s a great idea and we’re delighted to see this partnership between a historic company in the local community like Thomas Crapper and our media partner, the Stratford Herald.
“This is a real fun and easy way for people to contribute to the hospital campaign. I would like to thank Thomas Crapper for becoming the latest local company to help the appeal and the Stratford Herald for their continued support.”
