The Henley Baptist Church nativity scene is missing one crucial member… If anyone sees Baby Jesus please return him to his crib
“Don’t panic, but Baby Jesus is missing – again.”
That was the word on the streets of Henley this week as the Baby Jesus was once again found to be missing from his crib.
The nativity scene outside the Baptist Church was without the crucial member after Jesus disappeared under mysterious circumstances on Saturday (2nd December).
Sharing the news on Facebook, Richard Ackland said: “Baby Jesus has gone walkabout from his crib in the nativity outside the church. He may well have popped into the Nags Head for winter warmer and not found his way back. If anyone sees him or knows of his whereabouts could they please return him. It would be much appreciated. Thank you.”
It’s not the first time the Baby Jesus has gone missing in Henley. In 2020 a knitted version of the Saviour went missing from St Nicholas’s churchyard with a wee lamb, but, like a Christmas miracle, the duo returned in time for the festivities.
The disappearance of the latest doll-like Jesus provoked an existential conundrum in a Facebook debate, with Kathleen Conroy pointing out, as it was still early December, “he hasn’t been born yet”.
Others suggested he would be back by Easter sporting “a full beard”.
While Richard Heathcote begged the question: “Why has Mary been replaced by E.T?”
