Another former pub in Alcester looks set to be converted into homes
ANOTHER former Alcester pub looks set to be become new homes.
A planning application has been submitted to turn the Cross Keys pub, on Stratford Road, into three properties.
The plans were submitted a month after a scheme to turn the town’s Lord Nelson pub on Priory Road into two homes and build two further houses on the car park.
The Cross Keys scheme states that the pub has been closed since late 2020 and while there have been around 25 viewings of the business over a two-and-a-half year period, these did not results in offers considered high enough to sell the pub.
“As such the premises has remained vacant for a considerable length of time and there is no prospect of the building being brought back [with] a viable commercial use,” the planning documents add.
The conversion of the pub would create one three-bedroom home and two one-bedroom properties – each with a study and the accommodation over three storeys.
One of the smaller properties would also have an office/studio at the end of the garden.
The planning documents stress that no alterations would be made to the front of the building on Stratford Road.
The plans for the Lord Nelson, which closed in 2017, would see the Grade II-listed building converted into two properties – one with four bedrooms which would use the current entrance, the other with two bedrooms and its own, new entrance.
Two new dwellings would also be constructed in the car park.
Both sets of plans have been submitted to Stratford District Council for consideration.
