Adventurers enjoy diamond memories

A WELL-TRAVELLED Alcester couple who have crossed the Arctic Circle ‘several times’ in their motorhome, celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary on Thursday, 26th May. Margaret Jopsill, aged 79, and her 87-year-old husband, Brian, of Seggs Lane, have enjoyed travelling since they retired.

Brian worked in the NFU Mutual’s accounts department for 30 years, and Margaret was a teacher, including at Henley High School. Margaret said the secret to their happy marriage was “sharing things and not being afraid to talk to each other.”

She said the couple share an interest in travelling in their motorhome: “We have had four motorhomes and ridden the wheels off the previous ones.”

They have travelled all over Europe in their motorhomes together and she said: “We have crossed the Arctic Circle several times. The last time we crossed it was last year, and when we got home our family asked us not to do that again.”

The couple met at a good driving safety rally in Birmingham. Margaret, who was 17, was going to the rally with her cousin Dolly.

Margaret approached Brian, who was riding a motorbike with his friend, and asked if they could follow them there, and she lovingly added: “I have been following him ever since.” The couple married at the Methodist Church, in West Bromwich, when Margaret was 19-years-old.

They have four children Lynne, Ian, Alan and Jonathan, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
