WORK has begun on a £7.5million housing development in Wellesbourne - the latest in Stratford district that is specifically for people aged over 55.

Fifty homes for rent and shared ownership are being built at Ettington Lodge, off Ettington Road. They are expected to be finished early next year.

It is a joint project between Orbit Homes and United Living for Persimmon, with ten two-bedroom bungalows, 12 one-bedroom apartments and 28 two-bedroom apartments being built on former farm land.

Ettington Lodge will complete the final part of a larger development on Ettington Road which includes the neighbouring Ettington Mews - a range of independent living houses for shared ownership.

Chris Jones, Development Director at Orbit Homes, said: “Start on site is always an exciting milestone as the development starts to take shape.

"Independent living with care schemes allow customers to remain independent for as long as possible and Ettington Lodge has been designed with the needs of our customers at the very heart of it.”

John Lines, Project Manager at United Living, said: “We are excited to be involved with one of Orbit Homes’ high profile developments. Working alongside the local community we hope to leave something we all can be proud of on completion.”
