A NEW £5million Stagecoach bus station has opened.

Warwickshire’s principal bus operator has relocated with its current depot set to be swallowed up by housing.

The new site in Trident Park, Warwick, will accommodate 88 buses, 140 drivers and 30 engineering and administration staff.

Over three million miles will be covered annually by buses operating from the depot — the equivalent of six trips to the moon and back.

Services from the depot will cover cities, towns and villages as widespread as Evesham, Redditch, Banbury, Chipping Norton, Southam and Coventry.

It has six maintenance pits, electric vehicle charging bays for employee cars, intelligent heating, energy-efficient internal and external lighting, and harvests rain water.

The depot was built by Deeley Construction and was officially opened by Nick Denton, traffic commissioner for the West Midlands on Friday, 28th April.

Stagecoach Midlands managing director, Steve Burd, said: “The new facility has been built to high environmental standards and provides much improved engineering facilities.”

Stagecoach’s previous depot was on Station Approach in Leamington Spa.
