New £4m medical centre work well underway

WORK is well underway on the long-awaited new £4million medical centre in Wellesbourne.

The centre will be three times bigger than the village’s existing Hastings House surgery, which is will replace, and will be home to GPs, nurses and other community healthcare providers.

It is scheduled to open early next year.

The builders moved onto the land off Bridge Street last month following the conclusion of what has been described as a 'complex land acquisition deal'.

That involved Walton Estate, which owns the land, NHS England, South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group, and a team from Persimmon Homes, which is part-funding the centre as part of its deal to build 350-homes on Ettington Road.

Paul Mourton, head of real estate at Stratford-based law firm Lodders, said: “This was a very involved and complicated transaction, but by working closely with all parties we have successfully navigated the acquisition of the land for the new medical centre, including the compliance planning obligations under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 that were critical for the transaction to complete.”

Dr Martin Read-Jones, of Hastings House, added: “Paul’s negotiations with Walton Estate and the NHS early in the process were a vital building block for the ultimate success of the scheme.

"The new centre is an important step for future-proofing healthcare provision in the area. With a facility three times the size of the current practice, we can now look to expand our team of doctors and healthcare professionals within the next two years.”
