AN antiques and vintage centre in Henley is set to feature in the next series of BBC Two’s Antiques Road Trip.

Long-standing Bargain Hunt regular Charles Hanson paid a visit to Henley Vintage and Interiors in High Street in July to film the next series of the show.

The auctioneer and TV host spent a couple of hours there searching for bargains.

The programme sees antiques experts seek out bargains at the country’s antiques and vintage dealerships, and the Henley centre’s owner, Julie Lowe, said she was surprised when she received a phone call from the BBC asking for permission to film there.

Julie said: “I couldn’t quite believe it. I got the phone call from the BBC asking to come and film with us, but we were delighted to hear from them and to find out what goes into making the programme.

“We had a fantastic afternoon and couldn’t have asked for a better experience — I can’t wait to see the final programme.

“Charles said he loved the shop and said he would be back. He also said he loved Henley, and a customer spotted him in Henley Ice Cream shop eating ice cream and saying how wonderful Henley is.

“We’ve been at the heart of Henley’s High Street for the last 18 months and I hope people from around the country will see our beautiful community and pay us all a visit.”

Viewers will see Charles doing his best to negotiate the lowest possible prices with one of the centre’s stallholders, Christine Frew.

Christine said: “Charles was exactly as he is on TV. As someone who never misses an episode of the Antiques Road Trip or Bargain Hunt it was an absolute thrill to spend time with him, learn about his career and see how the programme is made.”

She added: “I was so nervous at the thought of being part of the programme, but the whole team put me right at ease and I soon forgot there was a camera pointing right at me following my every move.

“I love being part of the centre and this was a fantastically out-of-the-ordinary day for us all, but I must admit that I’m now nervously waiting to see my TV debut.”
