THE foundations for 82 one- and two-bedroom apartments at Fordham House, which is being built on the site of the building on stilts in Stratford-upon-Avon, have begun to be laid down.

Initial works at the site on the corner of Birmingham Road and Clopton Road, began earlier this year with the demolition the former office building.

It has made way for 64 one-bedroom and 18 two-bedroom apartments for so-called key workers, such as health and emergency service workers and teachers, as well as local people.

They are expected to be completed by summer of next year.

The development is a joint project between Stratford Town Trust, Orbit, ABD Developments, Robothams Architects and Deeley Construction.

Joan McFarlane, former trustee of the Stratford Town Trust, who came up with the idea for the block’s name.

She said: “Watching the laying of the foundations and marking the start of the construction of these new homes was an honour.

“Having suggested the name Fordham House as a tribute to the Flower family, founders of the area’s former Flowers brewery, it was an absolute delight to play a further role in the development’s history.”

Martin Gallagher, Managing director of Deeley Construction, said: “The demolition work has gone to plan and it means work can now kick-start the creation of Fordham House, which will be a new landmark building for Stratford.”
