COMMUNITIES across the district continue to dig deep as the Stratford Cancer and Eye Hospital Appeal edges near to its £1million target.

And this month has seen the campaign link up with Stratford ArtsHouse to provide a major boost to the fundraising.

The 500-seat ArtsHouse has pledged to support the hospital appeal by asking patrons if they would like to make a £1 charitable donation on all ticket sales.

The new partnership was launched on Friday, 2nd September, at the Pop Up Bowie show, a performance of David Bowie hits by an award-winning tribute act.

Customers are not obligated to make a donation to the appeal, but the ArtsHouse is hopeful that many may choose to.

The venue is already hosting a number of big events in aid of the appeal including a Big Top Night.

Will Hanrahan, chairman of the ArtsHouse, said: “We are delighted that we can help the appeal in such an imaginative way. As people are enjoying our lovely venue, they are also helping raise funds for perhaps the most important project in Stratford — real joined up thinking and a credit to both teams.”

Denys Shortt OBE, chair of the hospital appeal, added: “We are very grateful to the Arts-House for their kind donation to the appeal.

"The donations they collect are very valuable in helping us reach the £1m target.”

The ArtsHouse is also set to host a special Musical Medley show in memory of Dr Terry Gasper, a former GP at the Rother House Surgery, on Thursday, 27th October, with proceeds pledged to the hospital appeal.

Dr Gasper was a supporter of the appeal prior to his death. Among the performers will be Rachael Lloyd, who has appeared with a number of prominent opera companies in the UK and overseas.

Tickets are £12 from the ArtsHouse box office on 01789 207100, or by e-mailing boxoffice@stratfordartshouse.co.uk
