WARWICKSHIRE Bears recorded a mixed bag of results as their teams staged three home games at Warwickshire College in their latest British Wheelchair Basketball League fixtures.
Last season’s Premier League runners-up, The Owls, powered to a 70-29 win in the Premier League.
The Bears made a positive start, and matched the Owls who led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Owls ramped up their defence and limited the Bears access to their basket and led 52-21 at half-time.
The third quarter was the major downfall for the Bears as the Owls’ superiority in speed and fitness gave them the edge and opened a 52-21 lead before coach Tom Masterson took the opportunity in the final quarter to give court time to their younger players.
The Bears’ Seconds were 56-41 winners at home to Sussex Bears, registering a fourth win in a row, in Division Two South.
The Thirds, who included Ellan Fraser and Aaron Grant, who has been invited to the GB Under 22 trials, also showed huge spirit to push Birmingham Phoenix all the way until the visitors edged ahead in the latter stages to secure a 53-44 win in Division Three Central.
The Bears are next in action when the women’s team travel to Sheffield for the first round of the BWB Women’s League on Saturday and Sunday.
The Bears are still looking for additional sponsors to help the club in their endeavours to provide sporting opportunities for disabled people. The Bears are always looking for new recruits and volunteers for the club.
