Birmingham Senior Cup

STRATFORD Town’s Birmingham Senior Cup hopes were ended on Tuesday night after a penalty shoot-out defeat to Aston Villa at the Arden Garages Stadium.

Town boss Thomas Baillie fielded a strong side, led by Mike Taylor on his 100th appearance for the club, against Villa’s mix of Under-18 and U23 teams.

It was nip and tuck, as Stratford started brightly before Villa upped the tempo after the break.

Town, though, could have won it late on when Albi Skendi rattled the bar.

Into the penalty shoot-out, Jimmy Fry, Lewis Wilson, Skendi and Josh Cooke all netted for Town matched by Alex Prosser, Jordan Cox, Knibbs and Jacob Bedeau for Villa, but Town’s fifth penalty taken by Kieren Westwood was kept out by keeper Matija Sarkic hurling himself to his left .

It meant that Colin Odutayo could settle the tie by converting Villa’s next.

And he duly did so with the minimum of fuss to send Villa through to round three.
