44 potentially dangerous knives have been taken off Stratford’s streets following a police knife amnesty.
The knives, along with six forks, were all placed anonymously in a bin at Stratford Police Station during the week-long amnesty which ended yesterday (Tuesday).
Sergeant Bob Shaw from the South Stratford Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Through this campaign we are aiming to change attitudes to carrying knives. The surrendering of these knives shows that the message is getting through.
“Some people want the opportunity to safely and anonymously surrender their knives and this campaign has given them the opportunity to do this. It has taken significant number of dangerous weapons off the street.”
