A UNIQUE global torch relay promoting world peace visited Stratford Playhouse earlier this month as part of its route through the UK this autumn.

The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, formerly known as the World Harmony Run, visited the Playhouse on Thursday 13th September, carried by performers from Ananda who are due to play a special event for Diwali at the venue on 3rd November.

The Peace Run does not seek to raise money or highlight any political cause, but strives to create goodwill.

The Peace Torch has previously been carried by Mikhail Gorbachev, Nelson Mandela, the Queen, Desmond Tutu, Muhammad Ali & Mother Theresa.

Ellis Creez, from the operator of the Playhouse, Proon Productions, said: “It was very special to hold the torch, Muhammad Ali and the Queen have done it, and now me and Phil!
“The runners sang a song for peace when they arrived which was great, before they set off running again, I think they were making their way down to Oxford after us.”
Stratford Playhouse is due to officially open on 20th October, though the venue hosted a show from Cannon and Ball on Friday as part of a series of curtain-raiser events in the lead up to the grand re-opening.
