THOUSANDS are expected to descend on fields near Little Alne to mark the 70th annual Ploughing and Hedging Match tomorrow, Thursday.
The Forest of Arden Agricultural Society event is always popular and attracts sizeable crowds so this year’s match, being held near Pools Barn Farm, is expected to be extra special.
The match is the highlight of the society’s calendar and visitors can watch the exhibition of skill in ploughing a straight furrow, or laying a hedge to provide a stock-proof fence.
There will be many vintage and commercial tractors at work, as well as the spectacular heavy horse ploughing teams. Visitors are also treated to local produce in the lunch tent and bar.
The action starts at 9.30am and entry and parking are free. Buying a programme, though, helps towards the costs of putting on the show.
Schedules can be downloaded from the society’s website at forestploughing.com
