EXCITING plans for a new state-of-the art multi-purpose sport and community centre costing £250,000 in Henley is scheduled to open in the spring of 2020.

The Arden Recreational Centre (ARC as it will be known) has been given the go ahead by planners at Stratford District Council and will be built on the existing scout hut and sports facilities currently occupying part of a 20 acre site situated on Stratford Road, Henley less than a mile from the town centre.

The ambitious plan will see the demolition of the old scout hut used by 1st Henley and Wootton Scout Group to be replaced by a new facility which will incorporate a new scout hut, café, upgraded changing rooms and showers, a viewing deck, a food preparation and serving area, landscaping and a resurfaced car park.

The complete refurbishment was approved by the district council on 15th August and will accommodate Henley cricket, football and tennis clubs along with the bowls and air rifle clubs all of whom occupy or use the existing building and sports grounds which are owned by The Henley-in-Arden War Memorial Trust.
