BREAKING: Body recovered from river

Rescue teams have been searching the river all weekend

A BODY has been discovered by police officers searching the River Avon in Stratford last night.

The man, whose identity has not been confirmed, was discovered at 6.25pm yesterday, Tuesday, by specialist dive teams.

Nine police officers are in attendance at the scene close to the mini golf course on the Recreation Ground, along with two divers.

Warwickshire Police are concerned for the wellbeing of Cameron Whelan from Birmingham.

On Saturday, an image was released of a man police were concerned for the welfare of. A number of people have since come forward with information and it is believed the man in the image may be Cameron Whelan, aged 26, of the Moseley area in Birmingham.

The prolonged search activity is thought to be linked to an incident in Bridge Street at 9.30pm on Friday after which a further incident developed on Waterside.

DI Tim Sharp, Warwickshire CID, said: “We are still keen to speak to anyone who saw a man enter the water on Friday night at Riverside in Stratford and to call 101 and quote incident 482s of 25 May 2018.”
