Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi has spoken in parliament for the first time since it emerged that he attended the controversial Presidents’ Club Dinner.
Mr Zahawi answered a number of questions in his new ministerial position at the Department for Education during Education Questions in the House of Commons this afternoon.
He was not quizzed about his decision to attend the event, though in a question about nursery funding, Labour member Rupa Huq quipped that the minister ‘liked his parties’.
The MP has so far refused to answer questions about his attendance at the men-only Presidents’ Club Dinner, but did say on twitter that he left early as he felt “uncomfortable” at the event.
A protest was organised at Mr Zahawi’s constituency office on Sunday by the group Stratford Labour Women, urging the MP to answer ‘serious questions’ about the function.
