THERE isn’t much time remaining to enter the Herald’s photographic competition. We have teamed up with Specsavers in Stratford-upon-Avon as well as Stratforward BID to find the best local amateur photographers who can win fantastic prizes.

The competition brief is simple – to capture Stratford life, through a lens – and it’s open to children as well as adults.

And there’s still time to enter. Until Friday, 26th January, readers are encouraged to send in their images of the local area which capture the theme of ‘Stratford-upon-Avon in Winter’.

There are two age categories — under 16-years-old and 16-years-old and over. The winner of the adult category will take home a pair of designer glasses up to the value of £300*, a £50 high street voucher and dinner for two at El Greco Restaurant in the town. The junior winner will scoop a high street voucher for £150, together with a family meal for four at El Greco Restaurant. Each winner will also be presented with a framed copy of their winning photograph.

This photo looking down the River Avon was captured by Sheryl Buckland.

Thanks to the support of Stratforward, a selection of shortlisted entries will be printed, framed and put on display in local businesses around the town.

Specsavers Stratford store director, Paul Griffiths, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to show us their visions of Stratford in winter. You don’t need to have a fancy camera to enter, this is about people’s takes on our glorious town, and we’re really looking forward to seeing your shots.”

Herald editor, Amanda Chalmers, said: “Thank you to everyone who has submitted their entries thus far. The bench mark has been set very high and we know already that the judges are in for a tough decision.

“We would encourage more young people to take part however. If you’re under 16 and a keen photographer why not send in one or two pictures you’re particularly proud of. You never know, they could be good enough to impress our judges!”

Closing date for entries is Friday, 26th January, after which judges, Mark Williamson, photographer at the Herald, and Specsavers’ store director Paul Griffiths will select the winners.

This photograph by Tom Franklin was taken from the vantage point of the footbridge next to the Stratford Rowing Boat Club.
