THIRTY garages in Alcester are set to be demolished and three, two-bedroomed terraced houses put in their place.
Wexham Homes’ application for the site off Castle Road will be considered by Stratford-on-Avon District Council’s west planning committee at a meeting next Wednesday, 10th January.
Planning officers have recommended the application be approved.
Concerns have been raised by neighbouring residents and ward district councillor Eric Payne. Despite withdrawing its initial objection, Alcester Town Council admitted it was still ‘not particularly happy’ with the proposals.
In July the Herald reported how Stratford District Council and Orbit housing association had shared the £2million proceeds of the sale of 344 unwanted garages on 19 sites across the district.
Loughborough-based Prime UK Property UK Ltd already has permission to knock down garages 21 garages on St Swithins Drive in Lower Quinton and Arden Road in Henley, with applications for housing now expected.
Similar planning applications were recently submitted for houses on garage sites on Verney Close in Lighthorne Heath,The Leys in Bidford-on-Avon, Chingley Bank Henley, and Bell Field in Tanworth-in-Arden.
