Good wins for Shipston and Alcester but frustration for Claverdon

SHIPSTON needed to show some stern defence and clinical finishing to defeat Old Coventrians 42-22 in their Midlands Three West (South) fixture.

Harry Clark scored two tries for the Rams at Mayo Road, with Will Seys, George Waywell and Tobi Faulkner also touching down.

Victory keeps Shipston third in the table.

Alcester bounced back in style from the previous week’s Senior Vase drubbing with a convincing 23-12 win at home to Ledbury.

Despite two tries from Phil Birks and Jack Horton, they turned around with a 12-10 deficit.

But as Ledbury’s indiscipline continued with three yellow cards Alcester swept in for further tires from Dan Marcus and Ben Hope.

It was an afternoon to forget for Claverdon as they went down 16-3 at Bedworth in Midlands Four West (South).

The Lions paid the price for a poor start to trail 10-0 early on and then missed chances to get over the hosts’ try line.

Their only points came from the boot of James Williams.
