A former serviceman who has swapped his tank for a mobility scooter visited Stratford this week as part of his decades-long mission to document every war memorial and war grave in the country.
Mark Newton, 51, who is photographing and cataloguing the memorials for the Imperial War Museum, predicts that the task will take him 63 years to complete.
Mark, is more than two-and-a-half years into the challenge and has already visited more than 8,000 memorials, travelling almost 30,000 miles.
With a top speed of just 8mph, the job is unlikely to be over soon, though Mark is also collecting for five charities along the way, three of which helped him after he was injured in the army.
