IN keeping with Team GB’s huge medal tally at the Olympics, there was a gold medal performance from the people of Brailes who chose an Olympic theme for this year’s annual show.

Scarecrows were dotted all around the village and were dressed as Olympians, including a fencer, an archer and a high jumper.

The best dressed scarecrows were judged and voted for by the public, and awarded bronze, silver and gold medals.

The Olympic theme continued with a fancy dress parade for children in the main arena. Among them was a swimmer, an equestrian rider and an Olympic torch carrier.

Lauren Aubrey, aged 12, won first prize with her model of an Olympic podium.

Pony riding and classic cars also added to the sense of summer, along with a wide range of cakes and floral and vegetable entries in this year’s home produce competition.

It was a golden weekend, not only in Rio but in the south Warwickshire countryside as well.
