Town sign defender Dan Summerfield

Stratford Town manager Carl Adams has signed defender Dan Summerfield.

CARL Adams’ determination to bolster Stratford Town’s defence has been rewarded with the capture of Dan Summerfield.

The young Welshman has joined Town ahead of Saturday’s home game against Basingstoke.

Summerfield, a right-sided defender, first come to prominence with Merthyr Town and then signed for Halesowen Town last autumn after he moved to the Midlands to study at the University of Birmingham.

Adams had been determined to act quickly after labelling Town’s defending as ‘rubbish’ against Redditch United in midweek.

The Town manager said: “Dan is a very composed defender and a great addition to the squad.”

Summerfield revealed other clubs had been keen to sign him but he has been impressed by Town’s facilities.

“I am delighted to have signed,” he said. “I had options but I really liked the set-up and the boys seem a good bunch.

“I can’t wait to get going.”

Summerfield had joined Merthyr in the summer of 2013 and he played a crucial role in the Welsh side’s championship-winning side of 2014-15 when Town finished third in the Southern League Division One South and West.
