Public urged to help ease pressure on local hospitals

HEALTH leaders in Coventry and Warwickshire are urging members of the public to only go to hospital Accident and Emergency departments if it is absolutely necessary.

University Hospital in Coventry and Warwick Hospital is continuing to experience extremely high numbers of attendees at the Accident and Emergency departments.  Hospitals continue to see unprecedented numbers of people who are acutely ill and need high priority hospital care.

Health leaders are issuing a reminder for the public:

  • For minor injuries and ailments – use alternative NHS services where appropriate such as NHS 111, local pharmacies, minor injuries units, and to make an appointment with their GP in the normal way.
  • Stay away from visiting people in hospital if they themselves have experienced sickness, diarrhoea or flu symptoms in the last 72 hours. This ensures the safety of vulnerable patients and busy wards.
