IF you saw Stratford Town Hall turn purple at the weekend, it was all in a good cause.

The dramatic lighting was arranged by Stratford Rotary to finish off its events to support International Polio Day on Saturday.

Purple is the colour used as a symbol of Rotary International’s bid to eradicate the disease across the world – every child immunised has their little finer temporally dyed purple.

Club members were out in town on Saturday talking to people and shaking buckets and stayed out during the evening as the special lighting took effect.

They were also cheered by the news that Waitrose has donated £333 to the effort through its community fund.
