FOUR-GOAL TOWN WELCOME NEW BOYS
STRATFORD Town contributed to a little piece of footballing history on Saturday with a 4-0 win over the newly-formed Bromsgrove Sporting, who will begin their competitive life in Division 2 of the Midland Combination.

And the newcomers acquitted themselves with a good deal of credit as they held Town to a single Sean Pugh goal in the first half before tiring after the break as Town’s superior fitness and organisation had the inevitable effect.

Rod Brown sent on his five substitutes for the second half and the new-look formation provided three more goals from Myron Semper, Nicky Pugh (penalty) and Sam Alsop with Chris Jay a virtual spectator as most of the play took place in the Sporting half.

Last Thursday, Town held Blue Square North outfit Redditch United to a 2-2 draw at the DCS Stadium in their second pre-season friendly.

The Reds got off to a lively start and went ahead in only the ninth minute when Barry Woolley miscued an attempted clearance from a Will Gayton cross-shot into his own net. Town had barely had a look-in against the solid Reds’ backline but they equalised in the 25th minute when slick work by Pearson sent Motteram free down the left and his pinpoint cross from the byline was powerfully headed in at the far post by Sean Pugh.

Town went ahead five minutes before the break when Pearson confidently slotted home a Sean Pugh cross from the right.

Brown made four changes at the break but it was Redditch who scored the only goal of the second half when Dexter Ravenhill seized on Jay’s weak effort to deal with a left wing cross and fired the loose ball into the empty net.
